Expressive Arts Therapy

“Art enables us to find ourselves and lose ourselves at the same time.”
– Thomas Merton

Expressive Art Therapy uses visual art, movement, drama, writing, storytelling and other art forms intermodally in assisting the person in their personal growth journey. Through creating art, we are able to see our reality through a different lens, offering us a unique opportunity in approaching our problems.

Expressive Arts Therapists use a “low skill, high sensitivity” approach. This means that the client does not have to have any past experience with the arts. Trying a new art form may provide the client with an element of surprise. Through that experience, they may learn something new about themselves and how they can overcome their challenges in order to heal. Expressive Arts Therapy is accessible to everyone, including those who may not be able to express themselves in words as easily.
